Fantastic podcast as usual. And you can consider my vote for more parenting talk. I think sometimes it is more inspiring to hear about someone making mistakes as a parent and learning from them than hearing about complete successes. Makes it seem more possible or something. On a related note you might find this book (Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Myla Kabat-Zinn)an interesting read. One of the central points I took away from it is that they view parenting as a 18 year spiritual retreat in which you are confronted almost daily by your own issues. I am about due to read it again as it has been almost 4 years - very good stuff.

Keep the stories coming - fascinating stuff. However, I'm not sure where to find the older episodes - any suggestions? Also thanks for the music - most of the choices are things I wouldn't think to listen to but enjoy having heard. Julie Driscoll was definitely among that.

I think I owe you an email somewhere along the line also - life's a bit hectic lately but if I owe you one I'll get to it eventually...

You sure know how to make someone feel good Todd! The book sounds interesting- but I remember how stubborn I was when I knew we were having our first child- I refused to read anything at all to do with parenting. Maybe now, 16 years later, I may be close to being ready to ready - but will probably hold off until they're leaving. But yes, it's we the parents who learn - daily!

The older episodes (minus 1-8), if you're interested, are under the archives on the right, by month, or at the Pickle Page: http://www.podcastpickle.com/casts/?2817

Hey I can totally understand that one. Maybe it's more of a 'flip through it next time you're at Chapters' sort of book.

In my case, I didn't really have any idea of how to parent. My own parents taught me how I didn't want to parent but as to how? No clue. So for me the books have made all the difference. At least in the beginning to build the foundation.

Hey S.dude,
great podcast! I found your podcast through Chub Creek, who I found through the PMN.
So, a couple of things:
Really enjoyed your whole story about Morocco. You know, something, that's exactly why loads of Europeans N.Americans came to my country (India) and especially my city (Poona), because it was where all of this was happening and because it's really close to Goa (the capital of high people and rave parties) in the 60s, 70s, 80s and even the 90s and early 00s too, to do drugs and get enlightened. So I can kinda picture you in Morocco, all high, trying to communicate with the locals. Funny shit.
Next- I'm just about a year older than your oldest son and I listen to the Moody Blues and Justin Hayward. Yep! Really awesome stuff. That song about the cake in the rain is hilarious...!
I've never heard this song you played by the Blues, but are you sure you're allowed to play that stuff in a podcast? Please tell me if you can, because I'd love to put Nights In White Satin or something into my podcast (FOWL Radio)

Anyway, keep it up...

As a formerly stoned Montrealer, I resemble that remark!!

Wow, that made me laugh, cause you're 20 years older than I am, but I sat around stoned in Montreal smoking hash in a waterpipe listening to that same music in the 80's. As well as Jesse Winchester, Chilliwack, Jethro Tull, Genesis A.G. (Anno Gabrieli), etc.

Hi SD,

I loved to story - brilliant. You have a gift for telling storeis mate, It's not just the content but the passion you tell them with.

Good job Sir!

About the show format (or lack of it) I personally think you should just keep doing what you're doing. It ain't broke - don't fix it!

That said - if you'd like any sweepers or whatever, I'd love to help out :)

All the best,

Chris

Hey Thanks Chris! I shouldn't say this, cuz maybe I'll jinx myself, but I'm beginning to grow quite comfortable in this show, like wearing a favourite old shirt. You'll see/hear from number 45 that the neat little boxes idea didn't get very far - it seems I'm very serious about remaining half serious.

As for sweepers and chimneys, the next show uses GarageBand which has a few, but for sure, send in anything you like, anytime... dicksnjanes@rogers.com
